Frances e. Jefferson memorial scholarship
- Frances E. Jefferson was a native of Denver, Colorado and committed her life to serving the community by helping others through multiple service organizations, through individual volunteer efforts, and through her career as an administrator for the U.S. Department of Labor Women’s Bureau. She achieved her Bachelor's Degree and a Master of Science in English and Public Administration, respectively. This scholarship is awarded annually in her honor. Minority and/or disadvantaged youth aspiring to make an impact in their communities through achieving higher education and involvement in service organizations may qualify.
- Criteria:
- *Must be a minority or disadvantaged student with a cumulative GPA of 2.5, or higher.
- *Candidates must have documented plans to attend a community college, trade school, or university (letter of acceptance or proof of enrollment).
- *The candidate will submit an essay (minimum 250-words) answering one of the following questions:
- 1) Why do I believe it is important to participate in community service organizations?
- 2) What was the most valuable experience I have had in participating in community service and what made it so meaningful?
- 3) What are my future plans with getting involved in service organizations and why?
- *Provide evidence of academic achievement attained by copy of final transcript.
- *Provide two letters of recommendation by someone who can speak to your character and work ethic (one must be a teacher, coach, or counselor, the other must be
- someone outside the school).
- *Student must provide proof of enrollment for second semester in order to receive the 2nd scholarship distribution.
- *Candidate must submit application package by April 30th.
